The History of the UEFA Champions League and Our Sponsorship Story

Organized each year by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), the UEFA Champions League spotlights the top-division European clubs. The tournament was introduced in 1955 as the European Champion Clubs’ Cup and took its current name in the 1992-93 season. The event has featured periodic format changes but at present a maximum of five teams from the same country can compete during a season.

The UEFA Champions League kicks off in mid-July and concludes in May of the next year, with the determination of the champion. To date, twenty-two teams from ten countries have won the championship, with Real Madrid winning the most championships in the history of the tournament.

Our story starts in the 2022-2023 season...

As the Flag Carrier Airline of Türkiye, Turkish Airlines is proud and excited to sign one of the most important sponsorships in the history of Turkish sports.

Adding a special value to this prestigious cooperation, the UEFA Champions League Final will take place on June 10, 2023 at the Istanbul Atatürk Olympic Stadium, where the Turkish Airlines logo will beam from LED screens on the side of the pitch throughout the match.
